Annotated Transcript

Below you will find an annotated transcript for the courses I took to complete my Master's of Education in Mathematics and Science degree from Michigan State University. These courses have helped me to grow in my teaching and learning. These courses have helped me to become reflective in the practices I am using and in those I intend to use in the classroom. Check out the goals I set for myself throughout my masters program and the goals I have for myself upon the completion of this program. Summer 2017

Concepts of Educational Inquiry

Instructors: Dr. Steven Weiland & Nathan Clason 

 

This course allowed me the opportunity to be reflective about my learning, understanding and conceptions of educational teaching philosophies. I spent time reading, listening and viewing different authors' ideas of educational inquiry. Within each module I was able to be reflective of my own ideas and principles, demonstrating my understanding and making connections to the new ideas. 

Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology

Instructors: Dr. Douglas Hartman

In this course I was introduced to the integration of technology and content in the classroom. I had the opportunity to explore multiple new forms of technology and apply them to my teaching practices. I learned about the International Society of Technology and Education (ISTE) standards for educators and students. I was also introduced to TPACK (Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge); and how the best practices are created at the intersection of these. This course guided my teaching to begin including technology that is impactful to learning. 

Accommodations for Literacy Learners

Instructors: Kim Jansen

This course introduced me to literacy practices regarding cultural and linguistic differences, individual motivations, neuropsychological differences, instructional assessments, effective literacy instruction and accommodating differences in learners. I had the opportunity to apply these ideas to a literacy case study with a student to help them achieve a new learning goals. This course pushed me to apply the practices I learned about and recognize the differences in learners in the classroom.

Fall 2017

Teaching School Mathematics

Instructors: Luke Tunstall

​

This course introduced me to the best teaching practices in mathematics. It allowed me to engage in discussion about student engagement, discourse and everyday mathematics. In this course I conducted a project which gave me the opportunity to plan a lesson which focused on teaching diverse learners and utilizing student assessments. I took the time to evaluate how real real connections helps with student engagement and understanding.

Action Research in K-12 Science and Mathematics Classrooms

Instructors: Andrea Ventimi

In this course I conducted an action research project about increasing discourse in the mathematics classroom. I found research and data to support my claims and I conducted this project within my classroom. I focused on increasing discourse among students through the use of open-ended, collaborative tasks within the mathematics curriculum. This helped me to be reflective of my teaching and of student learning that occurs within my classroom. 

Summer  2018

Teaching and Understanding with Technology

Instructors: Debbie McHorney & Mary Wever

This course introduced me to new educational technologies that are beneficial for professional growth and teaching. I utilized new technologies such as Twitter, YouTube, WordPress, Popplet and GoogleDocs. I was able to create a 21st century lesson plan, my own blog and to explore a new task using only online resources. This class pushed me to communicate and collaborate across new medias to increase my education practices and understandings. 

Capstone Seminar 

Instructors: â€‹Dr. Matthew Koehler, Spencer Greenhaigh, Sarah KeenanLechel & Sukanya Moudgalya

This capstone course allowed me to reflective upon all of the courses I have taken throughout my masters program. In doing this I was able to create an online portfolio that showcases my learning professional practices. Throughout the semester I has the chance to personalize my portfolio to utilize as a resource for potential employers. This course helped me to solidify the ideas and practices I have learned and to recognize what I value most in education.
